Ghana: Mcleish Sings Quincy's Praise

24 August 2008

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish was full of praise for Quincy Owusu-Abeyie after the Ghana international turned in an outstanding performance in his side's 2-0 win over Barnsley.

The loan signing from Russia was full of life on the left wing as the Brums made it three wins out of three games and the perfect start in their bid to make a swift return to the Premiership.

We know that with certain players that you bring to the club you look for them to make a difference and I thought he made it today

Quincy was at the center of Birmingham's best moves with his pace, trickery and crosses and set up Gary O'Connor for the second goal that killed off Barnsley at St Andrews.

The display of Quincy drew a positive verdict from his club boss Alex McLeish. "He's very exciting," he told the club's official site. "Not only is he quick but he also has a wee trick or two."

The Black Stars player has sometimes been accused of lacking the vital final touch but that is something McLeish does not clearly agree with. "He doesn't run up blind alleys and he can only get better," he continued.

"It was a good performance from Quincy and the fans took to him. I am looking forward to seeing him do more damage to other opposition this season.

"We know that with certain players that you bring to the club you look for them to make a difference and I thought he made it today."

Quincy is on loan to Birmingham City until January from Dynamo Moscow but at this pace, McLeish will most certainly take up the option to make the move permanent when the loan deal is up.
