Kampala — MAKERERE College School and Eagles Nest High School rekindle their rivalry on court as the Sprite Schools Basketball Championship tips off in Kabale today.

The two teams reached the finals of both boys and girls competitions in Mbarara last year.

Makerere College beat Eagles Nest to win in the boys' category but the former turned tables to snatch the girls' title.

The two institutions are expected to take centre stage in the invitational one-week tournament at Kigezi High School.

Other teams that have already arrived in Kabale for the event include Kitunga High, Saku SS, Kololo SS, Bugema Adventist and Budo SS.

Others include Ntare School, St. Joseph Vocational School, St. Kalemba SS and St. Michael Sonde. Century Bottling Company has sponsored the annual event to a tune of sh79.3m.

The funding covers transport, feeding, uniforms and equipment for all participating teams. This year's package is sh20m higher due to the rise in inflation.
