Nairobi — The proposed abortion law will deprive parents of their right, obligation and duty in their children's development, a university don said on Saturday.
Prof Raphael Wanjohi said in a stement that the proposed Reproductive Health and Rights Bill 2008 "defines a woman to be any woman", irrespective of age, and this could lead young girls to procure abortion without their parents' consent.
"It is easier to fight a law before it is passed than to reverse it and remedy its negative effects when it is already in the statute books," he said.
Meanwhile, the Government has vowed to get rid of a gang that is terrorising Kigumo residents.
District commissioner Maalim Mohamed said the notorious gangsters, "The 42 Brothers", are operating in the Kaharati, Muthithi and Kigumo villages, where they extort money and valuables from the residents.
In some areas livestock are kept indoors overnight.
