A Washington based Pan African organisation, African Leadership Connection, ALC, has been introduced in Cameroon.
ALC President, Cameroonian born Chris K. Ngueda, officially presented the organisation to the Cameroonian public during a press conference in Douala recently. While presenting the ALC, Ngueda said it is a non profit organisation, with the aim of identifying and projecting the potential of African leaders who are willing to contribute to solve the challenges of the continent.
"ALC is out to detect the African intellect, and put them into a network whereby they can help one another to make a difference, for the interest of the African continent. So, our mission is to unleash the potential of those African leaders who are really willing to make meaningful contributions, to the development of our continent".
Ngueda stated that the activities of the ALC include: facilitating the admission of Africans into great schools worldwide, the career development pack and opportunities whereby Africans can access information with others, with regards to professional careers and offers.
Expatiating on facilitating admission of Africans into great schools, Ngueda explained that ALC, which has representations in many countries across the world, do regularly carry out research about higher institutions that have a reputation in their different countries. He stated that in the course of their findings about an institution, they, besides looking at the tutorial aspect, also find out if the school in question reflects the value which ALC stands for. "We in the findings also try to see if the studies offered in the school in question, reflect the need in Africa.
If we are satisfied, we approach the school to work out a partnership, in a bid to facilitate the admission of interested Africans across the continent," he noted.Asked what ALC benefits from all what it is doing, Ngueda said ALC is strictly a non-profit making organisation, and thus does not carry out programmes with the intention of benefiting anything. "What we are doing with ALC is just our modest way of trying to make a difference for this our beloved continent.
Each African has a responsibility to work in his own modest way for the development of this continent".
Inspiration From J. F. Kennedy
Ngueda said ALC members draw inspiration from what the famous US President, John F. Kennedy, once said: "Do not ask what your country has done for you, but rather ask what you have done for your country."
"This is exactly what we are doing with ALC. Africans trying to do something for Africa". Ngueda said though he has lived in the United States for many years that does not make him an American.
"With ALC, we humbly believe that we are moving towards a new beginning in Africa where all of us need to understand that it is imperative for us to reinvent ourselves, in order to better position ourselves in this world of globalisation. With ALC, we are building a connection among ourselves, for the development of Africa," Ngueda said.
Africans Should Learn From Obama
Meanwhile, Nguenda said Africans should learn from US Presidential candidate, Barack Obama.According to him, Africans should learn an important lesson from Obama: "Regardless of your situation, you can transcend barriers, and project yourself and your future, in order to realise your own goal, if you believe in the change that you believe is good for you".
The ALC President stressed that Africa can better benefit from Obama's rise to prominence by drawing inspiration from his philosophy of change and by changing their own mentality.
"The African people should discard inferiority complex, believe in themselves and take their own destiny into their own hands," according to him.
Ngueda said it is worthless for the African people to complain that the West has not done this or that for them. Ngueda asserted that only Africans can effectively move Africa forward, and that it is the responsibility of the African people to do so.
