She was positive that African women could do something to prevent conflicts on the continent adding that "if women develop the needed capacity for managing conflict at the family and community levels, this will work to prevent lots of conflicts in countries."

Hajia Alima Mahama also made reference to the Bawku conflict saying "if we had many elite women in Bawku that would not have taken place."

She congratulated the WPP Africa Desk and said its establishment in Ghana is going to open doors, create opportunities and space for all African women to take advantage and promote peace on the continent.

Madam Dorothy Attema of the WPP International Secretariat could not hide her joy and excitement at how far the programme has come since the suggestion was made for the Desk to be established in Africa four years ago. She stressed that women have what it takes to make things work for them and that the challenge "fro us to recognise that we are the ones to sort things out by our selves."

On a similar note, Isabella Gueskens also of the International Secretariat said the establishment of the WPP Africa Desk "started with one women speaking at a Council meeting of the IFOR/WPP, one woman doing the proposal and one woman agreeing to take on the challenge."

The Chairman for the occasion, Kalie Sillah of Sierra Leone said the active participation of women in conflict prevention will bring on board new insight for active non-violence activities.
