The Minister of Health Major Courage Quashigah (RTD) has urged the members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana to complement the government policy on regenerative health and nutrition to promote the country's health.
He said the introduction of the regenerative health and nutrition Programme is primarily to address the health risks arising from the changing life-style of Ghanaians which are; unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activity and neglect of basic environmental practices.
The Health Minister noted that most infectious diseases can be traced to the environment and as slums continue to develop particularly, in the peri- urban areas, it would continue to be a challenge.
He said the silent epidemic of non communicable diseases can also be linked directly to the changing life styles of the average Ghanaian which is characterized by poor eating habits and lack of exercise and recreation.
He advised pharmacist to advice clients to take exercise serious. Mr. Quarshigah was interacting with members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana in Tamale.
Mr. Alex Dodoo, the president of the society said while the society welcomes foreign investment in the pharmacy sector, the engagement of foreign investors in retail and distribution of drugs is not good for the country.
He disclosed that the pharmaceutical society of Ghana is the oldest health professional association in Ghana formed in 1923 and continues to be acknowledged internationally for its professionalism.
Mr. Dodoo called on the entire membership of the Society and all political parties, agencies and institutions involved in the December general elections to exercise extreme circumspection in the discharge of their duties, so that the country pull from the brink.
"Let honesty and fairness guide us and let us all remember that we have a wonderful country. A country blessed with abundant resources, a country spared the anguish of full- scale civil war that has plagued several of our neighbors".
