Ghana: Kotoko Make Perfect Top 4 Start

25 August 2008

Kumasi Asante Kotoko underlined their status as favourites for the off-season Top 4 competition with an emphatic 3-0 win over Berekum Arsenals at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors, who are the odds on favourites to lift the trophy, profited from their continuous activity with their involvement in Africa by completely dominating that game against the third placed side from the league.

Despite their dominance it took 44 minutes for the Porcupine Warriors to take the lead.

Kwadwo Poku's cross from the left created panic in the box and Ofosu Amoah was on hand to tap it in.

Kwadwo Poku scored a superb second, running with the ball from the edge of the center circle to give Kotoko a bigger advantage after 65 minutes.

Not to be left out, Poku's strike partner Eric Bekoe curled in a wonderful 25-meter free kick to ensure a brilliant start to the top 4 for the Porcupine Warriors and ensure the perfect preparations ahead of their Confederations Cup game against El Merreikh of Sudan on Sunday.

In the other Top 4 game, Liberty Professionals had their top scorer from last season Sam Ayew to thank for with his 23rd minute goal ensuring they took the honours against Heart of Lions.

Lions looked a pale shadow of themselves and on the evidence of this will have a lot of work to do to replace the likes of Dominic Adiyah and Emmanuel Banahene who have all left after the last season.
