The police in Lagos have expended much energy to prove that Mr Abayomi Ogundeji was, indeed, killed by armed robbers and not by policemen.
Though a star witness' account of the murder points to fleeing hoodlums as the culprits, many are still unconvinced. But even a clear proof of the police's innocence in the murder of the journalist would not exonerate the men who are entrusted with the security and safety of Nigerians. Rather than dissipate energy attempting to prove their innocence, the law enforcement agents should work harder to find Abayomi's killers. Nearly two weeks have passed. Will this be one of the many unresolved murders of prominent Nigerians?
The murder of Abayomi, who until his death was a member of the editorial board of THIS DAY, has once again shown the level of insecurity in the nation. His killers were roaming freely, seizing one jeep after another. Abayomi could not have known that they were robbers when he allegedly refused to obey their instruction that he should wind down his car's glasses. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between a criminal and a crime fighter in Nigeria.

How many Nigerians have been assassinated in the past few months? And do you expect the Nigeria Police to come out with the killers? Which of the murdered case have been solved before by the Police? Ours is a system that is only designed to fail.
There were thousands of poor ordinary Nigerians that died of gas explosion due to their extreme poverty that drove them to extremely dangerous behaviour especially during special holidays so they can provide for their families. Did any of you care to write about those innocent lives lost? They are just useless poor people compared to a single journalist killed by armed robbers whose life is worth more because journalists often collude with corrupt politicians to continue their exploitation of the poor masses. Oh well, whatever.
