DR. EmilInyang, Chairman, Biase Local Government of Cross River has described Saturday's re-run governorship election in the state as waste of time and resources.
"It is a sheer waste of resources to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members," Inyang said.
The chairman, who deplored the non-participation of the opposition parties in the state in the election, said "if they knew they were not going to participate they should not have challenged the last election in court."
Evaluating the exercise in his area in an interview with newsmen, he said he visited most voting centres in the council area and nowhere did he find an agent of other political parties.
"They did not participate. They are not serious, they just wanted to waste our time and resources," he noted, adding "In all the places you will see PDP agents, and no representation of the others".
He said, "At some point, I started wondering if they boycotted the exercise, but I remembered that it was announced.
"In fact, the whole thing showed that there was no basis for their going to the tribunal. They know they do not have the capacity to contest for the position yet they dragged us out."
The chairman said he wanted a real electoral contest to test the popularity of the parties among the electorate in the state.
His counterpart of Akamkpa council area, Mr Matthew Olori, said he was impressed with the turnout of voters in his area.
He said town criers and other methods were used to mobilise people to come out to vote, adding that "INEC also did well by bringing the materials early enough."
