Kofi Owusu Aduonum

25 August 2008

David Abaka Tawiah, team mate #1 began his 85-day stay in the academy house on a good note when he received the nod to assume the captain's role, after a splendid induction ceremony at the academy house, last Saturday.

Incidentally, his predecessor, Gideon Baah, winner of the maiden edition was the teammate # 1, who assumed the first captain's role, and if that is anything to go by then another success beckons the # 1 team mate.

The ceremony, which drew a large crowd to the academy's Ridge premises, saw current IBF Welterweight champion, Joshua 'Hitter' Clottey and IBF Bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko, gracing the colourful ceremony.

In his speech, the Managing Director of Optimum Media Prime (OMP), Mr. Ken Ashigbey gave the assurance of how this year's edition will be an improvement of the maiden one. "This year's will be laden with more surprises and improvement of what you saw last year. Definitely, it will include lots of celebrities and personalities from all walks of life, who will be paying courtesy call to the academy to interact with the teammates," said Mr. Ashigbey.

Mr. Ashigbey noted that Metro TV, the official TV station and OMP, the event organizers of the show have gone to a lot of length to ensure that the MTN Soccer Academy does not suffer the same fate as most reality shows.

All 14 teammates were given red carpet treatment, and after appending their signatures to their contract documents, they received their jerseys with their names and numbers embossed at the back.

During their close to three months stay in the house, they will engage in various activities such as Karaoke Night, quiz shows and other entertainment activities.
