Kampala — PHENIX Logistics has earned $780,000 (about sh1.3b) from export of organic cotton products in the last eight months.

"Since the beginning of this year, we have got orders for organic T-shirts worth $780,000," the managing director, Yuichi Kashiwada, said.

"The latest is the $250,000 (sh410m) deal we got from Aveda Institutes, a US-based company that manufactures organic beauty products and sells high volumes of organic blank T-shirts for promotional products."

"We have just shipped the company's order of 20,000 T-shirts and expect it to reach the US in a month," Kashiwada said during a familiarisation tour of the factory by officials from Aveda Institute and the introduction of their products on the Ugandan market.

He said Phenix's production capacity would reach 54 tonnes per month after installation of the new $2.5m (sh4.1b) machinery.

"We are in the final stages of installing the affluent water treatment plant."
