Nigeria: Governor Orji Showers Praises on Team

26 August 2008

Lagos — Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore .A. Orji has described the Nigerian Under 23 male football team which won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics football event as heroes deserving of commendation for making the nation proud in Beijing.

Governor Orji, in a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Hart, noted that the gallantry and determination exhibited by the team was what was needed to guarantee success in subsequent outings of our nation's athletes.

The Governor, who gave special commendation to Coach Samson Siasia and his management team, noted that even the final loss to Argentina was still admirable as the team did not roll over and allow the South Americans to overrun them as was predicted by most international sports pundits.

He noted that the Dream Team IV underscored his belief that there is nothing that Nigerians cannot achieve with determination and the right motivation and urged other athletes to borrow a leaf from the boys.

The Abia State Chief Executive urged the Managers of Sports in Nigeria to see the outing of Nigeria at the Beijing Olympics as a call for a serious look at country's approach to preparations for sporting competitions and urged them to pay more attention to pre-tournament preparations.
