Kampala — THE families of the South Africans accused of terrorism have hired Ugandan lawyers.

A Kampala-based law firm, Muwema and Mugerwa Advocates, yesterday filed an application at the High Court seeking orders for the head of the Joint Anti Terrorism Task Force to produce Mufti Hussain Bhyat and Haroon Saley in the court.

The two were arrested by the terrorism task force at Entebbe International Airport on August 17.

Their relatives complained that their continued detention was illegal. An affidavit sworn by the law firm said one of the suspects was in urgent need of medical attention.

Army spokesman Maj. Paddy Ankunda said: "They are still with us. There are certain things to be investigated and our investigations are still going on."

The court will hear the application on August 29.
