Kampala — PROMOTE the teaching of science and technology to improve people's access to resources, head teachers have been advised.
The First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, said development in the next millennium would largely depend on science and taking on new technology.
She cited improvement in living standards, the utilisation of resources, social security and preservation of ecological diversity and stability.
"We live in a new era where the expansion of science and technology gives societies access to enormous resources and potential to eradicate poverty and disease," Mrs. Museveni observed.
She was yesterday opening a meeting of secondary school head teachers of Africa at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
Advancement in science, added Mrs. Museveni, was crucial for the eradication of poverty in Africa. She also called for curriculum reforms to target creative thinking and inquiry.
Education minister Namirembe Bitamazire said Africa should participate in globalisation lest it regrets later.
