Kampala — New Cranes coach Bobby Williamson will have little time to assess influential players Ibrahim Ssekagya and David Obua ahead of next month's key African and World Cup qualifier away to Niger.
Bobby kick started his tenure as Cranes coach with a morning training session of home based players at Mandela National stadium. But at the same time in Mengo, Fufa CEO Charles Masembe revealed that club commitments have dictated that Austria-based Sekagya and new Hearts signing Obua woukld connect to Niamey from Europe.
Asked about the possibility of one or both of them not showing up, Masembe said that the federation has received assurances from both players. "We are in touch with the two players and that is there word," said Masembe.
"We have done everything possible to ensure that the players get the best ahead of the Niger game. An advance team has already booked hotels in both Bamako, Mali (where Cranes will make a stop over) and Niamey where the Cranes will stay," the CEO added.
Meanwhile Williamson described his first training session with the Cranes as a plesant start. The Scot, with assistants Sam Timbe and David Otti, took thirteen players through early morning practice.
"It was an enjoyable moment working with the players. I am struggling to learn their first names but I'm sure, it's a worthy experience. I am looking forward to developing all the players," the coach stated.
Caf has handed Ghanaian referees the mantle to handle the Cranes match against Niger. However Masembe declined to mention the names.
