Uganda: Mallinga Dismisses DDT Connection to Impotence

Jinja — The Minister for Health, Dr Stephen Mallinga, has dismissed claims that DDT causes impotence. "I have heard assertions from critics of this programme telling people that the use of DDT results in the destruction of manhood," he said.

Dr Mallinga made the remark while closing a free medical camp in which at least 6, 650 patients were treated free of charge at the weekend.

He said the pesticide can rid the country of mosquitoes and those who do not care are fighting it under the guise of protecting the environment.

"Malaria is still a big problem in this country but those who are sinners say we are destroying the environment," he said. The camp which was organised by Southern Range Nyanza Limited, Jinja Rotary Club, Jinja Referral Hospital, Surgipharm, and St Francis Health Centre, was held at the Nyanza factory in Njeru.
