Kigali — Supporters of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) gathered in different districts across the country to launch the Party's parliamentary campaigns.

According to the Party chairman who is also the President of the Senate, Dr. Vincent Biruta, the first campaigns were characterized by maximum security and big turn up of party supporters.

He said that PSD also held radio talk shows on the first day as part of their campaigning strategies.

"According to several reports I am getting from different districts, the launch went on successfully and we are sure everything will be going on well until the last day of the campaigns," said Biruta.

All political parties, including PSD, will contribute a certain number of MPs depending on the votes they will have got.

All Parties are competing for 53 seats out of 80 with the balance going to interest groups representing women, youths and the disabled.

24 women representatives will be elected from all four provinces and Kigali City on the basis of proportional representation.

Southern, Eastern and Western provinces will elect six women representatives each, while the Northern Province and the City of Kigali will pick four and two women MPs, respectively.
