Ghana: Allotey Jacobs Condemns Akufo Addo

Cape Coast — The Central Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Propaganda Secretary, Mr Ben Allotey Jacobs, has descended heavily on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo, describing his strategy of using artistes on his campaign trail, as a hypocritical move to win his presidential bid.

Allotey Jacobs recounted that Nana Akufo Addo, who belittled the intelligence of musicians some years back, when some of them wanted to venture into politics, is now taking advantage of the popularity of the these people, who now perform on NPP platforms, to boost his presidential campaign.

In an exclusive interview with The Chronicle, in his office in Cape Coast on Monday, Allotey Jacobs cautioned musicians and artistes, particularly Grace Omaboe also known as "Maame Dokono" and Nana Ampadu, who have been following the NPP flagbearer on his campaign, to be wary of the one they were following.

Allotey, who said he was surprised that Maame Dokono and Nana Ampadu, who condemned the NPP in 2000, were now campaigning for the party, implored Maame Dokono, who contested the Birim North Constituency seat on the ticket of the NDC some years back, to reconsider what Akufo Addo told her, that "parliament was not for concert people, neither do we play music there."

He said the NDC was not perturbed, neither was it shaken by the mammoth rally held by the NPP at the Takoradi Polytechnic park, but advised the NPP to draw lessons from it, as they did the same thing, but which did not help them. According to Allotey Jacobs, with all the mammoth rallies the NDC organized in 2000, with the massive support of top musicians in the country, it still lost the elections, because Ghanaians were yearning for a change.

He added that the woes of the NDC started in Sekondi, when the party held its national delegates congress, and mammoth rally there in 2000, stressing that the NPP would laugh on the wrong side of their mouths, if they think mammoth rallies can win them elections.

"I see history repeating itself, as what contributed to the downfall of the NDC in 2000, is the same thing happening to the NPP this year," Allotey said.

"I reiterate my stand that thousands of people NPP is bussing to their rallies, are the very people who will vote them out of power. They've done it once to the NDC, and will surely do same to the NPP in the December 7 polls," Allotey added.

He advised the NPP not to think that their so-called micro stability had made life better for Ghanaians, as people were waiting to throw it out of power in the December polls.
