Harare — Bulawayo's Amakhosi Cultural Centre next month returns to thrill theatre lovers with an environmental awareness play, a total shift from its political satires the centre had become known for.
The play, Lady Africa, written by Mandla Moyo, directed and produced by Cont Mhlanga is about a beautiful woman empowered by mother nature to give life, love, and ensure the general upkeep of those around her.
She is even dressed in green, with everything around her in that colour-symbolising life and eternity.
Her ability is boundless, since she is powered by nature to give life to everything around her. But this only happens for sometime until people arraign her begins taunting her, undressing her in the process, and leaving her for dead.
All hope is not lost, for in the end, her boundless energy is restored and she continues with her role.
The play is highly symbolic, leaving one wondering if it is not many of Mhlanga's political satires guised under the issue of environmental awareness?
Cont Mhlanga, however, could not be drawn into commenting much on the play, except to say that the play was highly symbolical and would showcase some of the best local casts to date.
Mama Africa will premier at Amakhosi Cultural Centre on September 18.
