Sierra Leone: Kenema Mayor Calls for Law And Order

Kenema — Mayor of the Kenema city council Monday called on political party supporters in the district to maintain law and order.

Chief Brima Kargbo was addressing a meeting of political party representatives, government officials and members of the civil society during a mediation session organised by PPRC and the district monitoring committee in Kenema.

Kargbo said the rule of law enhances perfect and decent behaviour of people in the community and it was necessary for people to respect it.

He condemned violence and intimidation taking place in some towns and villages within the district.

"We are all one people and Sierra Leone is one country. We should forget about individual gains and work in the interest of developing our respective communities," he said.

PPRC's regional officer James Bockarie said the session was part of their mandate to maintain law and order among political parties.

"This forum will help bring political party representatives together so that they can discuss matters that affect them," he said.

Patrick Ado of the civil society movement commended PPRC for ensuring a violence free local council election in the district.
