Kampala — LUBIRI High and Maryhill girls, Eagles Nest SS and Bugema SDA boys booked early berths to the semi-finals after posting victories in Sprite Schools Basketball championship in Kabale yesterday.

The four teams led their respective groups with four points in the 15-team contest.

Eagles Nest boys who lost to Makerere College in the final last year underlined their determination after posting a century in their 110-29 victory over hosts Kigezi High to top group A.

The Eagles feat overshadowed Ssaku SS 102-31 win over St. Joseph Vocational School (Mbarara) on Tuesday in the group B race against Budo SS.

In the girls' category, Lubiri High showed their potential of dethroning champions Eagles Nest after beating Bugema 40-34 with Sylvia Namusisi hiting 15 points in their triumph.

But Maryhill High also announced their bid for the girl's title after thumping Kigezi High 91-6 in group A late Tuesday.

With the result, Maryhill coach Dennis Katungye said the cup was in sight for his side.

"I am confident we shall bring everybody down. We have worked so hard and I am happy the girls have got the confidence to carry us through," boasted Katungye.
