Botswana: Jehovah's Witnesses Hold Gaborone Event

27 August 2008

An estimated 3,000 people from Gaborone, including Lobatse, Jwaneng, Molepolole and Mochudi, will come to the Botswana National Stadium over two successive week-ends for a three day event focusing on finding reliable guidance.

Jehovah's Witnesses will host their annual convention at the National Stadium with the first of the two local conventions in English beginning Friday 12 September, followed by the second in Setswana beginning Friday 19 September.

This year's Guided by God's Spirit' district convention is open to the public. The programme will focus on why reliable guidance is needed today and where people can turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life.

Witnesses who are associated with the area's 25 congregations anticipate an excellent turnout for the event in view of the enthusiastic response to last year's convention, which had the theme, "Follow the Christ". Witnesses also look forward to welcoming many non-witnesses to the convention. Witnesses believe that all who attend will benefit from the practical information presented.

Throughout southern Africa, there will be more than 70 conventions in 40 cities and towns. Worldwide, there are nearly seven million Witnesses in over 100,000 congregations. More than 12 million people attended over 3,200 of the Witnesses' conventions around the world last year.
