The ground is fertile for a musical festival dubbed 'Woodstock Botswana' to be held next month at the Old Quad Track near Phakalane.
The festival, an annual event, will be held on September 6, 2008 to raise funds for Sponsor-A-Child.It will be the third concert to be held for Sponsor-A-Child. The last two generated a staggering P104,000.
The festival is organised by Sound of Hope and the brains behind this musical outfit are Roger Madison, Ivo S'brana, Rey S'brana and Delia S'brana.
The objective of the festival, which is sponsored by Shell, Hype Store, Carlsberg, Mmegi, The Kingsley Group and Phakalane Properties, raises funds for HIV/AIDS prevention messages, especially targeted at the youth.
Renowned rock musician, Roger Madison flanked by other event organisers, disclosed on Thursday in Gaborone that all is set for the third charity event for Sponsor-A-Child Foundation dubbed 'Woodstock Botswana'.
He said: "Our continued endeavour is to raise funds for the advantage and spread of the HIV/AIDS prevention message through music and entertainment.
"In spreading the HIV/AIDS message we have found that using music and entertainment is the best way to reach the youth".
He said that the musicians have come together for the common goal of responding to grave challenges facing society.
Rock stars from Nosey Road Band, Ivo S'brana and Ray S'brana, said the reason to use role models during the concert is to put across the HIV/AIDS message because the youth admire them."
The aim is to use the role models because the youth admire most popular musicians of Botswana. They will be actively involved in spreading the anti-AIDS message during the show," they said.
Ivo explained: "I dare say that even if we manage to save one life, thanks to the show, then in my heart I will feel it has been worthwhile.
I would like to thank the sponsors whole heartedly as they have shown great courage and enthusiasm and social responsibility in supporting this noble effort."
He appealed to the general public to contribute to the success of the charity show.
"Come and contribute to this great cause by attending and supporting the bands that have volunteered to play the show," was the lucid message to all lovers of humanity.
Sponsor-A-Child board member and volunteer, Dorcus Makgato-Malesu, saluted the musicians for their strides designed to uplift the welfare of society, saying their gesture to raise funds for the vulnerable members of society will go a long way.
She said the initiative by Sound of Hope is commendable as it compliments existing initiatives at a national level, adding that alleviating the plight of the vulnerable members of society needed concerted effort by all stakeholders. She said the availability of funds enables the Trust to meet its mandate, adding that the funds will assist in the implementation of programmes that are already in place. The media was roundly commended for its sterling effort in engaging society on issues that affect them, adding that the festival will be a success with the positive input of the press.
Roger acknowledged: "Without the media, we cannot succeed in this initiative to stage the festival and attract the members of the public to be part of the show."
The participating bands include Skin Flint, Rhutz, Nosey Road, Wrust, Stane, The Substance, Ras jesus, Lister, Chris Manto 7, Jeff Matheatau and Nomadic. All proceeds go to Sponsor-A-Child Foundation and the admission fee is P40. Doors to the show open to the public at 1pm until 12 am. Pres-sale tickets are available now at Nosey Road video shops.
