Tamale — The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mohammed Adam Amin-Anta has alleged that the National Democratic Congress is planning to launch series of bloody attacks in the Metropolis, and then link him to those nefarious activities.
According to him, at an alleged secret but well attended meeting held in Tamale by some high ranking members of the NDC, including some of its Regional and National executives, where this "diabolical agenda" was planned to be hatched within the next three weeks, was to tarnish his hard won image and popularity.
Addressing a section of the media in Tamale, alongside the former Information Minister, Mr. Dan Botwe, and the NPP Regional Secretary, Faisal Gbangili, the Tamale MCE hinted that NDC had realized that the popularity and chances of the NPP to win the Tamale Central seat had soared high because of its massive infrastructural development, hence the alleged plot to link its parliamentary candidate to various violent acts, ahead of the polls.
Mr. Amin-Anta further revealed that serious demonstrations would also be staged to compel him to resign his position as MCE. The Tamale MCE said he was 100% confident of his informants from the NDC camp that such violence would soon be embarked upon by the "NDC hooligans", since he had already been verbally attacked by Lawyer Inusah Fuseini, the NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale.
Mr. Amin-Anta, alos stated that he was not moved by the planned violence and threats, emphasizing that he would remain the MCE until he received different directives from the President.
Sounding a note of caution against any group or individuals whose activities would be directed towards causing chaos in the metropolis, he stated that the security agencies were alive on the ground and would respond appropriately.
According to the MCE, Inusah Fuseini, sometime ago, accused him of refusing to rescue an assemblyman and other people who were arrested and being brutalized by the military during the violent political riot at Changili. During the recent Voters Registration Exercise, Inusah Fuseini once again accused the MCE of leading a team of gun men to fire gun shots at the Kulikuli School Work Station, and took away 1,019 registration materials.
"Why won't I believe my informants after the NDC has succeeded in levelling these serious allegations against me? What I have observed is that my work at the Assembly is a testimony of the NPP's good works, so NDC is afraid that people who are development minded will definitely vote for me in December, because I have heard some NDC members confess that 'if we want development, then let's send Anta to parliament".
All efforts to contact the NDC Northern Regional Secretary, Alhaji Haruna Friday proved unsuccessful. The MP for Tamale Central, Hon. Inusah Fuseini in a telephone interview admitted holding an executive meeting during the recent registration exercise, but explained that the subject matter of the said meeting was not about the MCE. He therefore debunked Anta's claim that the NDC was plotting violent attacks in the metropolis. According to him, "those so-called informants of the MCE from the NDC camp are only out for money".
Hon. Inusah emphasized that the NDC would be the last political party to cause violence in the North, since they believe beyond all doubts to secure victory in the area. According to him, Mr. Amin-Anta or the NPP was not a threat to him nor the NDC as a party, and promised to maintain his seat in Tamale Central.
