Asaba — Delta State Governor , Emmanuel Uduaghan , has concluded plans to build an industrial park in Warri to boost the economic activities of the state.
Toward this, the Governor yesterday in Asaba signed a memorandum of Association (MOU) between the state and Arco Petrochemical Engineering Company Limited to build and put in place the necessary facilities needed for the take-off of the business district.
Uduaghan stated at the signing ceremony: "Warri has around it a lot of oil activities but many of the things that are used in the oil industries are manufactured outside this country. Or when they are imported, are cleared outside the state. Some of the things can be manufactured within this country and in fact some of the things can be manufactured in the Warri axis.
"That is why we have welcomed a proposal from Arco Petrochemical, the MoU that we have signed just now, of a big expanse of land where we can create a Warri Industrial Park. In that industrial park between the state government and Arco Petrochemical, we shall put up a lot of infrastructures-power, roads, security, all infrastructure that would support industrialization and all the industries need to do is to access the land and put up their industries."
Managing Director, Arco Petrochemical, Mr. Alfred Okoigun, said while signing the MOU , that the company "is to partner with the Delta State Government to come together and come up with what we call Warri Industrial Business Park. "
According to him, " Warri Industrial Business Park is a concept we thought about and felt that it fits into the Delta State three-point agenda, which is peace and security, infrastructure development and human capital development.
"This first phase is the MoU to undertake a feasibility studies. We are going to be engaging international organizations to look at all the possibilities and thereafter come up with what they think will be the exact amount to fund it. It is not a political . It is a serious business."
