Nigeria: Oyinlola Slams Opposition

Osogbo — Governor  Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State yesterday criticised the opposition in the state for not seeing anything positive in his efforts at repositioning the state to greater heights.

Speaking at the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the creation of the state, Oyinlola said that he would not be deterred by what he called the antics of those he said are embarking on negative propanganda against the state.

Oyinlola who recalled efforts made by the founding Fathers of the state declared that his administration has since assumption of office May 29, 2003 fashioned out programmes that had elevated the status of the state.

For him, "Cynics and critics would argue almost endlessly and see no positive signs of development.

It must be baffling to those who have constituted themselves into the camp of "see nothing good" that our people have refused to be hoodwinked by negative propaganda against this great state. "We know too well that it is human to err and have therefore, tolerated all criticisms, including those which have glaringly been made in bad faith.

Let us never forget however that criticisms not made constructively by way of the preferment of alternative solutions cannot be regarded as essential tonics for stimulating results and greater accomplishments" he said.

Oyinlola, who also used the occasion to confer State Awards on 26 eminent persons who have excelled in their respective fields further stated that, "I find this occasion appropriate to ask our people to be wary of those with negative tendencies and whose main pre-occupation is to wage negative media war and propaganda against our state.

Their move would always fail because of their dishonest intentions which should not normally be expected to stand the test of time," he stated. He said that "to stay on the fence and criticise without participating in or contributing to societal development is such an easy task. But we must realise that no positive changes would be effected without our individual and collective efforts.

Accordingly, we all need to sit back and re-evaluate our contributions to the development of this state since inception. We must not be under any false illusion that we do not have a moral duty to put in our very best individually, whichever way possible, aided by God's endowments, to make the best of our circumstances" Oyinlola said.
