Abuja — Minister of Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Architect Halima Tayo Alao, has expressed the Federal Government's readiness to assist state governments in tackling ecological problems.
Alao said this while receiving Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Mr Census Ekpu, in her office, yesterday.
According to her, government has recognised the fact that no one tier of government can adequately shoulder the entire responsibility of environmental challenges, hence allocation of parts of the funds to state governments.
In a statement issued by the Ministry's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Clement Egbema, at the end of the visit, Alao assured that the Federal Government through the Ministry, will always assist states when such disasters are beyond their capacity.
Alao also restated the Ministry's commitment to sustainable environment, providing affordable housing and slum upgrading.
