Christian Epee, Nkor Gendarmerie Brigade Commander, Noni, Northwest Province, has been accused of brutalising detainees in an attempt to extort confessional and incriminating statements from them.
One Marcelline Bolang, 18, and mother of two, told The Post recently that following the clash between some Mbororo youths and Din indigenes in Noni Subdivision, Epee arrested, detained and brutalised her.
"He brutalised us, insisting that we must admit that we burnt houses belonging to the Mbororo people," she said.Bolang said the Commander dislocated her hand with a club.
"The Brigade Commander had me beaten all over my body including the soles of my feet," she lamented.
Although Bolang admitted that some houses were burnt by the enraged children of deceased Sama Alidou, after being assaulted by Mbororo youths, she said she did not participate in the arson.
Ernestine Sama, 23, daughter of the late Alidou, corroborated Bolang and said the Commander even denied them food. "We went to Nkor to supply food to our detained relatives. The Brigade Commander arrested and detained us for two weeks. I developed swollen feet from the torture and was admitted at the Djottin Health Centre," she added.
According to some male detainees at the Kumbo Principal Prison, the Nkor Brigade Commander rough-handled them even on their testes.Except for the female detainees who have been released, the 11 male detainees incarcerated in connection with the incident have spent over a month behind bars.
