28 August 2008

Some thieves masked, with gloves operated at the home of the Jouanangs at Etoug -Ebe by 9p.m. on Monday the 25 of August 2008, making away with the sum of FCFA 300,000 and cell phones.

Just before the incident, some neighbours declared having seen unidentified individuals strolling around the locality all dressed in black like "anti gangs" at about 7p.m. Family members of the Jouanangs said the bandits came in when they were into their sitting room and gathered everybody in their parents' bedroom.

While in the room the family members were forced to lie flat on their stomachs. Meantime, the eldest boy, Lionel, was outside. On his return, he saw somebody spying from the entrance of the house. He called names of some neighbours but no one answered. The boy started shouting "thieves, thieves" while running towards another neighbour's house. Since three of the bandits were in the house, the one he saw outside who was guiding those inside, made a statement to indicate to the others inside that a boy had shouted out "thieves". One of the robbers came out and they both caught the boy, slapped him and took him inside the house. As he was lying on the floor, one used his gun and hit him on the head. He began bleeding.

Meanwhile, people came out with machetes waiting for the thieves but nobody attempted to get in because the thieves had fired a gunshot when the child was trying to escape. Inside, they searched everywhere and stumbled on FCFA 300,000, seized all cell phones and moved out. The population feared to follow them because they fired in the air while escaping.
