Obuasi — THE CHIEF of Bekwai, Nana Karikari Appau II, has commended AngloGold Ashanti, (AGA) Obuasi Mine, for its Aquaculture project at Homase, in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The $550,000 project, which comprises of a suite of fish growing schemes, integrated with livestock rearing, and year-round leafy vegetable farming and ecotourism, was launched last year.
It is one of the projects the company was embarking on, under its sustainable development programme.
Nana Appau II made the commendation when he inspected the progress of the project last Thursday.
He expressed happiness that the project had created jobs for people within his traditional area, and hoped after the completion of the projects, additional jobs would be created.
He advised his sub-chiefs at Hemang, Adubriem and Krodua, to make lands available to the company, for the construction of community fish ponds.
The Bekwaihene was accompanied on his tour by Nana Opoku Ababio and Nana Brobbey, Adontenhene and Ankobeahene of Bekwai respectively.
