Lagos — National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has stated that over three million Nigerians have registered and were benefiting from it.
NHIS Executive Secretary, Dr Mohammed Dogo, disclosed this while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Bauchi.
Dogo said that apart from the federal civil servants, Cross Rivers and Bauchi state workers have also registered and were benefiting from the scheme.
According to him, Cross River registered 17,000 members while Bauchi, which started on July 8 has about 50,000 beneficiaries.
He said that the bureaucratic nature of government was posing an obstacle to the implementation of the scheme.
He allayed the fears of religious leaders on the scheme and called on Nigerians to accept the NHIS as it was established to improve healthcare delivery in the country.
Dogo was in Bauchi for a one-day NHIS workshop for civil servants and religious leaders.
