Kickoff (Cape Town)
29 August 2008
Cape Verde striker Jerry Adriano Pires has finally completed his move to Orlando Pirates on a three-year contract.
KickOff.com revealed a week ago that Adriano had already impressed the club at training, scoring within 20 minutes in a friendly game for his new club.
All details of the deal for the 24 year-old, who has played most of his career in North Africa were completed on Thursday with a good contract that will see the striker earn a competitive salary.
Though highly-rated and coming with a reputation of being a capable finisher, Pirates were lucky in that they got the striker on a free transfer since he wasn't under contract at any club.
Adriano joins Pirates from Algerian club USM. He has previously played his football in Portugal as well as at Tunisian clubs Esperance and US Monastir, where he spent four years.
However, the new striker will not be available for Pirates' season opener against Golden Arrows as his work permit has yet to be issued.
Adriano has already expressed his happiness about the move telling the Pirates website that this is an important move in his career.
He becomes the first ever player from the Cape Verde to play his football in South Africa.
