Zimbabwe: Interbank Games Roar Into Life Today

Harare — The 38th edition of the annual Interbank Games bursts into life at Prince Edward School today with more than 15 banks expected to take part.

Sixteen sporting disciplines - including football, volleyball, athletics, squash and basketball - will be part of the festival.

The tournament will be directed by Sebastian Garikayi.

The Zimbabwe Allied Banking Group will host this year's edition of the games.

"ZABG is proud to host the 38th edition of Interbank Games as it is our firm belief as an organisation, that successful business must be firmly entrenched in the community it operates.

"As such, we are proud to be associated with the rich heritage of sportsmanship that is embedded in the Interbank Games," read part of the statement on the ZABG website.

The games are held enhance social interaction among the community of bankers, and have become a permanent and important feature on the social calendar of the banking fraternity.

"This year 17 institutions will be participating in the tournament, which encompasses 16 sporting disciplines.

"We commend these institutions for upholding the Interbank Games tradition in a difficult economic environment.

"This is a display of the co-operation that has existed among banks through these lean times.

"The fact that we will all participate with a spirit of good sportsmanship and fairness makes us all winners, whether we will walk away with a trophy or not," said the statement.
