Kampala — DAN Wagaluka's intended transfer to Scottish side Inverness Caldenston collapsed due to work permit and player transfer deadline complications.
However, the 22-year-old could still realize his dream of joining an English club when the European player transfer window re-opens in January.
Wagaluka left the Highland club yesterday after spending two weeks on trial and immediately moved to London, where he might finally settle if negotiations involving him, his agent and a conference side are successful.
Inverness manager Craig Brewster felt, securing a permit for the Ugandan star in the next three days would be impossible and was looking to the possibility of signing him during the mid-season transfers in January if he is still available by then. The European player transfer deadline is fixed to end on September 1.
Wagaluka, who had also been linked with Hearts, had played for Inverness in the Barry Wilson Testimonial against Liverpool last week.
"The deal could not happen because of the costs that would be involved in finding me a permit before the end of the window.
"I had a good spell with the club and in future there is a possibility of returning. However, there are several other offers available that I will look at, now or when the window re-opens," he stated.
Wagaluka will return on Monday to compete for a starting place in the Cranes side expected to assemble against Niger next Sunday.
Competition in the wide positions
Joseph Kabagambe and Vincent Kayizzi are the others vying for the same slot on the right-side of midfield.
But in Wagaluka and Abubaker Tabula, Cranes currently find themselves blessed with exceptional wingers. The two epitomize the modern wide-player and will still prove pivotal in Niamey.
Wagaluka as often been employed on the right, thanks to the offense-defensive counter-balance he has often held over his usually closest challengers Kabagambe and Kayizzi.
In Niamey, Wagaluka could still assume a starting place since Cranes boss Bobby Williamson intends to play an attacking game, applying consistent pressure on the visitors with speed and power up the middle.
