Barclays Bank Plc, on Thursday, appointed Mr. Benjamin T. Dabra as the new Managing Director (MD) of its outfit in Ghana, with effect from November 1, this year, subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals.
This was contained in a release, signed and issued in Accra, by the bank.
His successor and current MD of the bank, Margaret Mwanakatwe, takes up a new responsibility for Barclays Business Development activities across West Africa, effective November 1, this year.
Commenting on Mr. Dabrah's appointment, the MD of East and West Africa, Adan Mohamed, said "We are very pleased to have Benjamin join us to take forward our Ghana franchise, building on the great work our current Managing Director, Margaret Mwanakatwe, has done,"
"Margaret's deep and broad pan-African experience, means she will be able to significantly contribute to our African growth agenda, building on the contribution she has already made to our businesses in Ghana and Zambia," noted Mr. Mohamed.
Prior to Mr. Dabra's appointment, he was the Regional Credit Director in West Africa, for the Standard Bank of South Africa, based in Nigeria.
Before that, he worked for Barclays for over 7 years.
His latest job with Barclays was Country Credit Director for Barclays Kenya.
He is a graduate of Hull University in the United Kingdom (UK), and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana.
He is a Ghanaian national, and married with three children.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Dabra noted "I am looking forward to joining Barclays, and leading its strong and leading franchise in Ghana. I am delighted to be part of a great team that will set the pace in banking in Ghana, and build on the foundation laid down by Margaret."
While congratulating and welcoming her successor, the outgoing MD said "I wish Ben every success in his new role, and I am confident his experience and knowledge of Barclays, will serve as a major advantage in driving the business forward. I am excited about my new role, and look forward to developing the Barclays franchise in West Africa. I have enjoyed great support from everyone in Ghana, and I know Ben will receive the same support."
