As part of its corporate social responsibility, to support quality healthcare in Africa, Ecobank Ghana Limited has donated US$ 20,000 to Transplant Links Community (TLC), a United Kingdom (UK) registered charity group, made up of British doctors.
The group's primary objective is to save lives, through kidney transplants in the developing world.
They would be partnering with doctors of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, to carry out kidney transplants for a number of Ghanaian patients, in September, this year.
The donation, which took place at the Head Office of Ecobank Ghana, in Accra recently, was the first-ever initiative to be carried out in the country.
Presenting the cheque for US$ 20,000 to TLC, the Managing Director (MD) of Ecobank Ghana, Samuel Ashitey, indicated that his outfit was committed to supporting quality health care in the sub-region, and would continue to contribute immensely to the sustainable healthcare programmes in Ghana, to provide relief to the under-privileged. The bank has in the past supported the National Kidney Foundation, and the Ghana Cardiothoracic center among others, as well as individuals who seek medical treatment abroad.
"Ecobank understands the impact of healthcare on productivity, and the overall growth of the economy, and remains committed to these objectives," noted the MD.
The transplant programme, which runs through 2010, seeks to bring relief to kidney patients, who live with chronic renal failure.
