Kampala — There is a feeling that the former army commander Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu's popularity in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is growing.
Muntu, who is a secretary of mobilisation, is projected by most top officials as a quick thinker, good listener and open to criticism.
This is making him a contender for the top party job. Already, speculation is rife that he could be the best choice as Col. Kizza Besigye's successor for party president. Besigye's shortcoming, according to rumours, is running the party single-handedly.
Before rising to army commander, Muntu served as head of Military Intelligence in the late 1980s.
