Namibia/Kenya: Saintfiet Wields the Axe as Warriors Take on Harambee Stars

1 September 2008

Windhoek — Brave Warriors coach Tom Saintfiet has selected a strong 18-member team for Namibia's do or die clash against Kenya in Nairobi on Saturday.

The wounded Warriors must beat Kenya in Group 10 of their 2010 FIFA World Cup preliminary and hope the other two nations in the group stumble along the way to have any mathematical chance of qualification for the 2010 CAF African Nations Cup finals in Angola.

Saintfiet has left out all locally based players and recalled Jomo Cosmos' goal keeper Abisai "Zico" Shaningayamwe and discarded Warriors pair of winger Sydney Plaatjies and Levy "Meraai" Swartbooi, while Collin Benjamin also makes a welcome return to the squad after the Hamburg player was laid low through a nagging injury.

Former captain Michael "Dolam Tower" Pienaar is amongst the notable absentees from the 18-member squad while the league's leading goal scorer Pineas Jacob has also been cold-shouldered by the technical staff who have seemingly opted to go for broke.
