Nigeria: 'Obama's Victory'll End Racism in U.S.'

31 August 2008

Lagos — T he National Coordinator of the New Pan Arewa Group, Alhaji Yusuf Saleh, yesterday said the electoral victory of Senator Barak Obama, the Presidential candidate of U.S Democratic party, would end racism in that country.

Saleh told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna at a discussion held by the group in support of Obama that the presidential candidate is on the verge of history to end racism in the World.

He said the focus of the one-day discussion was to provide moral and spiritual support for Obama, whom he said, stood the chance of winning the U.S presidential polls.

"Since we cannot vote for him directly and his candidature means so much to us in this part of the world. We are obliged to show our support by organising this discussion to let our people know what Obama stands for.

"He represents all shades of opinion across the World and we feel that his victory will break the walls of racism across the world.

"We, therefore, call on white Americans to continue to vote for him, " Saleh said.

He said the group was supporting Obama's presidential bid not for any economic or primordial benefits, but rather, for the dignity of the human race.

"As you can see, both the Asians and Arabs are happy with his entrance into the race, because of its racial implication to the global politics," Saleh said.
