Editor of the New Vision newspaper has declared his intension for the position of national assistant secretary general ahead of the Sierra Leone association of journalists' elections to be held later this year.
Sheik Bawoh was in Kenema and Bo over the weekend to woo members of the association to vote for him in the forthcoming SLAJ race.
He said over the years he has been understudying the leadership of SLAJ, their areas of interventions, achievements, and that he was left with no option but to vie for the said position.
"During the annual general meeting in Bo I informed colleagues that I would be contesting for the said position. I am again here to interact with you and share ideas together and chat the way forward for this noble association.
"SLAJ is a very respectable institution. You may have a lot of other aspirants who will come to convince you to vote for them but I am sure that members of the association are educated enough to be easily carried away by people who do not want the progress of the association. I am confident that if I am voted in as the assistant secretary general of SLAJ I will live up to your expectations" he said.
Vice president of SLAJ, eastern region, Mohamed Vandi thanked Bawoh for his visit saying most often authorities vying for positions of trust stay in Freetown and instruct members to vote for them.
"We have opened our hands to all aspirants, even though we may belong to different camps. I am assuring you that you will, like all other aspirants, have our support and commitment. Our intention is to move SLAJ forward," he said. Mohamed Mansaray, financial secretary, also lauded the intervention of Bawoh. He said SLAJ needed people who are ready to sacrifice their time and resources for the progress of the institution.
He said he would rally around colleagues to ensure that the right people are elected in the appropriate positions, adding that though the elections were few months away yet the visit was timely.
