Sierra Leone: SLAJ Trains Journalists On World Bank Reporting

Kenema — Sierra Leone association of journalists in collaboration with World Bank Friday organised a one-day training on civil journalism for journalists in Bo in a bid to help them report effectively on World Bank.

Albert Rogers who chaired the meeting disclosed that journalism started in the world when people started governance.

Rogers said that journalism was a profession and therefore Journalists are people who should monitor, inform and educate the masses about the daily activities in our various communities.

He further disclosed that journalists should be trained and to become qualified to do the job and cautioned them to be careful in writing reports about other people.

Rogers said that this is the first time that World Bank has organized such training for journalists to investigate and report on World Bank funded projects right across the country.

National secretary general of SLAJ Ibrahim Karim Sei disclosed that journalists are not used to reporting on development issues and human interest stories.

Sei disclosed that the session was organized by SLAJ in collaboration with World Bank to focus their reports on World Bank funded projects.

Sesay said that journalists should cover their various communities and give their reports on economics and social needs of the people.
