Namibia: Youth Theatre Festival Starts Next Week

Windhoek — Windhoek residents and particularly those living in Katutura can look forward to a week full of theatre entertainment at the Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School in Katutura as from next Monday evening.

Featuring out-of-school youth theatre groups from 10 towns around the country, the National Theatre of Namibia through its Youth Theatre Development Project (YTDP) is going to present the Youth Theatre Festival under the theme "Ada !Hao-re" (Let's Gather) on September 8-12, 2008.

The festival will be the first of its kind by the project since it inception in 1997, and aims at:

  • Promoting Regional Theatre Groups;
  • Providing a platform for live performance and audience exposure;
  • Income generation (a percentage of the door intake will be shared amongst the groups); and,
  • Bringing the groups together to network.

The festival will culminate in a prize-giving ceremony on Saturday, September 13. One of the main prizes to be won is an all-paid trip for the best overall group to participate in a theatre festival in Germany in 2009.

The Youth Theatre Development Project is solely funded by Brot Für De Welt, an international funding organization based in Germany.
