Kabale — After failing to make it to the just concluded Olympic Games, marathoner Joseph Nsubuga is targeting to qualify for next year's World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany.

"I was disappointed I failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics. It still hurts but I will make up by qualifying for the World Championships," the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier told Daily Monitor on August 29.

Nsubuga is undergoing residential training in Kabale together with Francis Musani, preparing for the World Military Marathon due October 11 in Italy. They are residing at Kabale Military Detach along the Katuna-Kigali Road, under the watchful eye of experienced UPDF coach Gordon Ahimbisibwe.

"I am sure Nsubuga can do well in Italy and qualify for the World Championships," coach Ahimbisibwe said. The two runners will compete in the National Half Marathon due September 13 in Sironko District to test their fitness.
