Nairobi — A woman who gave police officers false information concerning a person she had disagreed with was on Wednesday fined Sh20,000 or to serve a six-month jail sentence in default.
Aisha Abubakar, who appeared before senior principal magistrate Ms Lillian Mutende, was convicted on her own plea of guilt.
The prosecution told the court that on September 1, the accused had gone to Central Police Station and reported that Pims Syatze Nikcolai had been sold a stolen phone.
Investigations conducted by the police indicated that the information given by the accused was false and that the phone belonged to Nikcolai.
In the same court, a middle-aged man was charged with stealing five motor vehicles worth Sh3.9 million.
Hassan Ahmed Dahir is alleged to have committed the offence jointly with others not before court on the night of July 10 and 11 in Port Reitz area.
Dishonestly
Dahir was also charged with dishonestly retaining a car, knowing or having reason to believe it had been stolen. He allegedly committed the offence on August 27, in Nyali area.
The charges were read to the accused in Somali language through a court translator since he said did not understand Kiswahili well.
He denied all the charges and was given a Sh500,000 bond with surety of similar amount. His case was set for hearing on October 22.
A 28-year-old woman who stole 900 Euros (Sh90,000) and assorted household goods valued at Sh37,200 belonging to her sister was on Wednesday jailed for 18 months after pleading guilty to the offence.
Susan Claire Odanga appeared before Kilifi resident magistrate Mr Peter Kiama accused of stealing the property of Ms Olivia Akinyi Odanga on August 9, this year in Mtwapa.
Susan Claire had been living with her sister before the incident.
