Eritrea: President Isaias Receives Credentials of 15 Ambassadors

Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki today received the credentials of 15 Ambassadors, during which he held talks with them on regional and international issues.

They are Ambassadors CT Rubushe of South Africa, Mrs. Paola Amandei of the EU, Ms. Andrea Reidy OBE of the UK, Ms. Karj Maren Bjornsgaard of Norway, R.L.R.M Van Embden of the Netherlands, Klaus Peter Schick of Germany, Abdulkader Mohammed Hadi of Yemen, Fredrik Schiller of Sweden, Dr. Thomas NADER of Austria, Daniel Ochieng' Makdwallo of Kenya, Shigeo Iwatani of Japan, Igor Haustrate of Belgium, Ibrahim Sahib Ansar of Sri Lanka, Oscar G. Valenzella of the Philippines, and Sani Lawal Mohammed of Nigeria.

In the meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador, the President indicated that Eritrean-Norwegian relations date back to the days of the armed struggle for independence. He also expressed Eritrea's desire to further enhance these relations which rests on solid ground.

Also in the meeting with the Kenyan Ambassador, President Isaias noted Eritrea's contribution towards reactivating IGAD. Stressing the need for restructuring the organization so that it could play due role in the region, he stated that Kenya should play positive and constructive role in the Horn region.

The Kenyan Ambassador said on his part that he would strive to develop the existing ties between his country and Eritrea.

Similarly, the South African Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Rubushe pointed out that in the course of a tour of development projects in Gash-Barka region, he was impressed with Eritrea's achievements since independence.

Mr. Ibrahim Sahib Ansar, the first Sri Lankan Ambassador to Eritrea, recalled that his country used to extend support to the Eritrean people's liberation struggle. He also indicated that Sri Lanka wishes to develop relations with Eritrea.

In the meeting with the EU Ambassador, President Isaias underlined the tragic genocide being committed in Somalia, and elaborated that the Somali issue should be given priority.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Sani Lawal Mohammed, expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with Eritrea in the domains of human resource development and education.
