Addis Abeba — The Ministry of Transport and Communication (MoTC) disclosed that Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) has improved 80 percent of its operation helping the ministry obtain dramatic results.

Junedi Sado, Minister of Transport and Communication said on Monday that in collaboration with the Ethiopian Civil Service Agency the implementation phase of the BPR has been undertaken for the past nine months in five organizations under the ministry including Telecommunication Corporation, Civil Aviation, Road transport, Postal Service and Rail way transport.

According to the minister, the reform has assumed a rhombus shape based on jobs and structure, management and measurement, process, value and cultural beliefs in the country.

In the previous years, the government has been more focused on road construction amounting to 44,000 kilometer of road constructed. However, for Ethiopia to join the middle income countries within 20 years is impossible with road construction only. Therefore, the minister said that the government now has a plan to build 5,000 kilometer rail way across the country.

Addis Ababa city rail way construction was planed in the previous time in order to reduce the problem of transportation.

The number of international air ports will reach four in the first quarter of next year when the Bahir Dar and Mekele are completed together with Bole and Dire Dawa air ports, he added.
