Kanungu — President Yoweri Museveni yesterday announced that he will soon launch investigations to find out how districts spend the grants extended to them by the central government.

The remarks followed an observation from the districts he has visited so far as he popularises his bona bagagagawale programme, saying only Kanungu and Soroti have impressed him.

"I have been impressed by the roads in Kanungu. I will soon investigate the other chairpersons and find out how the money at the districts is spent. I will look at some chairpersons who don't construct roads," the President said.

He asked the people of Rutenga in particular and Kanungu to thank their chairperson for the impressive work she has done. The state of roads in Uganda has lately been of concern to the President after it was discovered that the costs for construction and maintenance are inflated by people in the Ministry of Works.

Mr Museveni also advised the people of Rutenga to desist from the latest habit of marrying off their daughters when they are still young because the parents want to gain from marriage and at the same time warned them against catching HIV/aids. Mr Museveni has so far visited districts in Eastern and Western Uganda.
