The Director of Commonwealth Foundation, Dr. Mark Collins, recently promised possible assistance for current projects in Ndu as well as help to the Donga Mantung community radio.

Dr. Collins was responding to a litany of supplications emanating from the traditional ruler of Fuh quater, Shufai Njilangotong, at Njipmbo Palace in Ndu Subdivision.

In a welcome speech, Shufai Njilangotong, also the Principal of Government Bilingual High School Nkambe, had presented projects initiated by his people to include a multipurpose hall, a community forest where water conserving trees and medicinal shrubs are being planted, a clinic, a library, the rehabilitation of the palace and the construction of a women's empowerment centre - all plagued by serious financial problems.

It is in this light that Shufai Njilangotong, seeing the Commonwealth official as God-sent, pleaded for funding, since, according to the traditional ruler, "the biological systems of blacks and whites function the same and as such, we should be each other's keeper."

To this, Dr. Collins had said that at the level of the Commonwealth, his influence on official matters touch on 53 countries of the world to help civil society organisations promote democracy, development and cultural understanding in Commonwealth countries, creating change and making people's voices heard.

Talking on democracy, Dr. Collins expressed joy and appreciation that SDF councillors were working in unity with their chief, who is a staunch CPDM militant. He called on the people to always make free choices at elections to ensure that only the right people are elected to shape their destiny.

He said he found in the people of Ndu, a hardworking, lively and caring people. The highlight of the visit was the decoration of the Commonwealth official and the conferment of the title Ta-Nformi Barah on him in the presence of the sub-chiefs of Mbipgo, Ndu, Jirt and Ardos, Shufai Njilangotong, and other two English researchers who accompanied the Director with titles of "Shey Mgwang," and "Shey M'kuu", respectively.

Dr. Collins visited Ndu after meeting with the Minister Delegate in charge of the Commonwealth and officials of the National Elections Observatory, NEO, in Yaounde.
