Sierra Leone: Country Gets 90 Tonnes of Rice, Oil From Egypt

Abdul Karim Koroma

4 September 2008

Freetown — Egyptian fund for technical cooperation has presented ninety tonnes of rice and four hundred cartoons of cooking oil to the people and government of Sierra Leone.

Making the presentation at State House shortly after he was introduced to President Ernest Bai Koroma by foreign affairs and international cooperation minister Zainab Bangura, the Charge de Affairs at the Egyptian Embassy in Sierra Leone Amr Yousry said it was a pleasure to donate the country's staple food.

He recalled that his government recently donated medicine to the ministry of health and sanitation through the minister Dr. Soccoh Kabia.

President Koroma thanked the benefactor saying the donation was in line with Egypt's support to this country.

He lauded the fund for the kind gesture and expressed hope that Egyptian technical skills in agriculture would be transferred soon to Sierra Leone "to enable us grow our own rice." The president admonished the minister of trade and industry Alimamy Petito Koroma to make the donated items accessible to the public before handed him the keys to the containers.
