Nigeria: Azikiwe Varsity to Admit 3,700 Students

5 September 2008

Awka — NNAMDI Azikiwe University says only 3,700 of the 22,000 candidates who made the institution's first choice and scored above 200 in JAMB would be admitted. The university's Acting Director of Public Relations, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the criteria was based on the allocation of admission quota to the institution by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He advised admitted students to pay the required registration fees into designated banks domiciled in the institution.

The designated banks include Intercontinental, Zenith, Diamond, UBA, Spring, Bank PHB, Fidelity and First Bank.

Ojukwu said the university was aware of fraudsters soliciting and collecting money from parents, guardians and prospective candidates, promising them admission.

"The admission into the Nnamdi Azikiwe University is only by merit and no one would be admitted without going through the admission committee".

"Already, five fraudsters have been caught for admission racketeering and have been handed over to the police".
